The VisionThe emerging global community will form a sustainable culture. |
The MissionSet the foundation for sustainable culture through the discussion and development of sustainable communication. |
The focus of Inverted Sphere is the human side of communication, rather than the technological side. The idea behind the mission is that if the global community can express and learn information in a way that seeks to understand how our subjective world-views tie into the world we share, instead of the other way around, then we will naturally develop practices and technologies that will sustain the prosperity of our species and environment.
Human culture is to truth what a prism is to light; When light enters a prism, its constituent colors get refracted at different angles and change the colors in which things appear as the light leaving the prism shines on them; Likewise, when information is introduced to human culture, it gets interpreted through many similar and many drastically different perspectives, and the variety of interpretations set off chains of reactions that affect changes in the world.
It has long been a common practice throughout the world to vilify that which we do not understand, causing many choices to be made that divide the community by placing the validity of one life over another. The act of communicating tends to reflect this biased view of life, making it very difficult to see eye-to-eye across cultural differences, or even to solve problems on one’s personal level. The way each of us communicates is largely based on our personal experience of the culture we come from, so everything we communicate is translated to be understood. The fact that we can understand the same information across cultural differences shows that there is a common way that humans understand information. If we can observe the common thread of understanding, we will overcome the things that harmfully divide our culture.
The experience of communication is required for culture to exist, so a culture’s practices are only as sustainable as its communication. For the global community to work together to sustain its prosperity as a whole, we need to observe the common thread of understanding as we communicate.
Sign up to join Inverted Sphere and participate in a global community effort to define and develop sustainable communication by exploring what the common thread of understanding is and how it can be applied intra- and interpersonally. Membership is always free.
